ALEXANDER 23, CARROLLTON 22

Jacob Tucker’s three field goals proved decisive as the Alexander knocked off #7 ranked Carrollton, 23-22. The Trojans got out to a 15-point edge before the Cougars mounted a comeback. It was 22-20 with 2:10 left before Tucker kicked a 23-yard field goal for the decisive points. Alexander’s defense then held Carrollton in check to pull off the upset. Travis Maloy rushed for a touchdown for Alexander, while quarterback Donovan Hoskins piled up over 200 yards on the ground. Alexander is now 6-3 heading into the regular season finale with South Paulding.

CAMBRIDGE 40 CHATTAHOOCHEE 21

Phillip Michael-Collins had 4 touchdowns and Christian Isibor added two more as Cambridge used a strong start to down Chattahoochee, 40-21. After successfully recovering an onside kick to start the contest, Michael-Collins scored the first touchdown of the night, followed by Isibor’s. It was 19-0 before Chattahoochee found the end zone. With the victory, Cambridge holds on to fourth place in Region 7, a game ahead of Sequoyah, but the Bears wrap up the regular season next week at undefeated River Ridge.

DACULA 20, CENTRAL GWINNETT 16

Kyle Efford rushed for 227 yards and two scores as sixth-ranked Dacula beat Central Gwinnett 20-16. The Falcons were behind 16-13 when Efford gave them the lead with his second touchdown of the night. Dacula then made some good defensive stands to deny the Knights the victory. The victory sets up a winner-take-all match for Region 8, as next week Dacula faces the other undefeated team in their region, the Buford Wolves. Central Gwinnett remains winless in the region at 0-5, and finishes their year with Habersham Central, who needs a win to clinch the third seed in the playoffs.

DARLINGTON 46, WALKER 7

The Darlington Tigers scored on their first three possessions on the way to a 46-7 win over the Walker Wolverines. Quarterback Patrick Shelley rushed for two touchdowns and threw for two more. Harrison Allen rushed for two touchdowns as well. Thanks to three scores in the first half, the Tigers enjoyed a 25-0 lead at the half, before scoring the first two times they had the ball in the second half to seal the win. Darlington ends the regular season with a 6-4 total and a 2-2 region record, while Walker finishes with a 2-8 mark.

ATHENS ACADEMY 56, GEORGE WALTON ACADEMY 21

Athens Academy and George Walton Academy traded touchdowns in the early going, but the Spartans outlasted the Bulldogs and won, 56-21. After George Walton took the opening touchdown and scored a little less than two minutes into the game, Charlie Chisolm had a strong scoring run to tie it up. It was 21-21 when Palmer Bush hit Deron Colzie in the end zone. It was the second time they connected on the night and it gave the Spartans a lead they would relinquish. Fourth-ranked Athens Academy goes to 8-1 overall and appears to have wrapped up the second seed in region 8.
